The Queens Gazette says:

“Twist and Smash’d Sports, the latest venture from the owners of Twist and Smash’d serves as the first and only indoor bocce court and sports bar in Queens. After the successful launch of their popular burger hot spot, Twist and Smash’d (located on Austin Street in Forest Hills), the father and daughter powerhouse team decided to expand the franchise into the sports bar arena. Twist and Smash’d Sports, will mark the second expansion in Queens this year. Their unique “twisted” spin on the potato, specialty burgers and other creative menu items have become a huge “smash”, which ultimately led to the brand’s fast growth. This new luxurious hot spot, located at 34-02 Steinway St. in Astoria, is the perfect place for avid sports fans.

When the Twist and Smash’d restaurant was formed after a family trip to Ecuador, they could not have anticipated it to take off as quickly as it has. Twist and Smash’d Sports will elevate the concept of the sports bar by incorporating their unique, fast, casual dining experience with innovative technology, green space practices and fun for people of all ages. Sports enthusiasts will be able to take part in their nightly events, Bocce Ball tournaments, and casual socializing. Twist and Smash’d Sports will open its doors to the public for the first time the weekend of May 1. On May 3, Twist and Smash’d Sports will be airing the Kentucky Derby and the widely anticipated Mayweather vs. Maidana fight on Showtime PPV. Sports fans will also be able to enjoy this year’s NBA playoffs in style.

Twist and Smash’d Sports’ hours of operation will be 11 a.m. to 4 a.m. The sports bar will offer daily lunch, dinner specials and drink specials. By combining a mixture of a sleek design, sports and entertainment, Twist and Smash’d Sports has created a unique day and nighttime hot spot. The location consists of a 5,000 square foot space with state of the art equipment, two Bocce Ball courts, and 54 flat screen TVs. They have a full “wrap-around island bar”, where fans can congregate, watch games and choose from 50 beers on tap, along with a host of wine and spirits, and outdoor patio seating for balmy weather. Twist and Smash’d Sports will offer all major sports channel packages, including NFL Sunday Ticket, MLB Extra Innings and NBA League Pass. While serving signature twisted potatoes and a newly revamped menu, along with unparalleled sports programming, and two Bocce Ball courts, they are positioned to truly raise the “bar” this spring and summer for sports fans.

Twist and Smash’d was created by Chef Robert Cano and his daughters while on a family vacation to Ecuador in 2010. In Ecuador the family found a small café that sold twisted potatoes. Enchanted by this idea of a potato on a stick, they brought it back to New York and Twist and Smash’d was born. Twist and Smash’d is owned by Cano Ventures Corp, a sister corporation to Rcano Group which owns and operates Rcano Events. Cano is the president of RCano Events off premise catering company. He is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, which means he knows (and loves) food and has led the field in incorporating organic, seasonal, and locally grown ingredients.”
